KEY ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Cordyceps sinensis Mycelium

Cordyceps sinensis is a traditional Chinese medicinal fungus that potentially offers numerous health benefits. It possesses adaptogenic, anti-oxidant, anti-aging, neuroprotective, and immunomodulatory properties (Shashidhar et al., 2013; Ji et al. 2008). The fungus contains bioactive components such as nucleosides, polysaccharides, and cordycepin (Shashidhar
et al., 2013
). C. sinensis also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects, potentially alleviating allergic rhinitis and asthma (Chen et al., 2020). Its mycelium extract can protect against bacterial infections by enhancing immune response (Kuo et al., 2005). C. sinensis also shows promise in treating fatigue, hyperglycemia, and various respiratory, renal, and cardiovascular conditions (Zhou et al., 2009Zhu et al., 1998aZhu et al., 1998b).

Several double-blind, placebo-controlled trials have investigated the health benefits of C. sinensis mycelium. One study found that C. sinensis enhanced natural killer cell activity in healthy adults (Jung et al., 2019), while another reported improved aerobic performance in amateur marathoners (Savioli et al., 2022).*

Reishi mushroom

Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Studies have shown that reishi possesses immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties (Batra et al., 2013). Its active compounds, including polysaccharides and triterpenoids, contribute to its therapeutic potential (Bulam et al., 2019).

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study on healthy adults found that reishi β-glucan significantly enhanced immune cell populations and natural killer cell cytotoxicity (Chen et al., 2023). Additionally, reishi has shown promise in managing cardiovascular and metabolic disease risk factors, with the most compelling evidence supporting its hypoglycemic effects in type 2 diabetes patients (Chan et al., 2021).*

Shiitake mushroom

Shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes) is one of the most cultured and consumed mushrooms around the world. Based on preclinical studies, it exhibits immunomodulatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, and cholesterol-regulating properties (Ahmad
et al., 2023
).

According to the results of clinical studies, shiitake extract can reduce triglycerides and improve antioxidant status in individuals with borderline high cholesterol (Spim et al., 2021), while regular consumption of L. edodes by healthy young adults resulted in improved immunity (Dai et al., 2015).*

LION'S MANE Mushroom

Hericium erinaceus, commonly known as Lion's Mane mushroom, contains bioactive compounds, including β-glucan polysaccharides, hericenones, and erinacines, which possess neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties (Deshmukh et al., 2021Spelman et al., 2017). H. erinaceus has demonstrated
anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunostimulating effects, contributing to its multiple health-promoting properties (Friedman, 2015).

Recent studies have explored the cognitive and mood-enhancing effects of Lion's Mane mushroom through double-blinded clinical trials. Docherty et al. (2023) found that acute supplementation improved cognitive performance in healthy young adults, while chronic use showed a trend towards reduced stress. Spelman et al. (2017) and Saitsu et al. (2019) noted its neuroprotective properties, suggesting potential benefits in treating neurological disorders.*

Evaluation of Immune Modulation by β-1,3; 1,6 D-Glucan Derived from Ganoderma lucidum in Healthy Adult Volunteers,A Randomized Controlled Trial

Chen et al. Foods - February 3, 2023

A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted among healthy adult volunteers to investigate the ability of Reishi β-glucan to modulate immune responses. Subjects in the intervention group, who received Reishi β-glucan, exhibited a significant enhancement in various immune
cell populations, including T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells, as well as an improvement in the natural killer cell cytotoxicity when compared to the placebo group.
