KEY ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Irish moss (Chondrus crispus)

Irish moss is a red seaweed rich in sulfated galactan polysaccharides known as carrageenans, along with minerals and trace elements. These soluble fibers form viscous gels that can coat and hydrate mucosal surfaces, helping to maintain normal stool consistency and providing fermentable substrate for beneficial gut bacteria, which in turn produce short‑chain fatty acids that support intestinal barrier function and comfort (Matos et al., 2024; Lomartire et al., 2021). Reviews of carrageenan from Irish moss describe antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities and highlight its ability to form protective films, properties that are used in topical and cosmetic applications to help maintain skin hydration and barrier integrity, and that may also help buffer epithelial surfaces exposed to mechanical or dietary stress (Nečas
& Bartůňková, 2018
; Kalsi et al., 2025).*

Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus)

Bladderwrack is a brown seaweed notable for its high iodine content, soluble fibers (including alginate), and bioactive compounds such as fucoidan, phlorotannins, and fucoxanthin (Catarino et al., 2018). Iodine from Fucus species contributes to the substrate pool needed for normal thyroid hormone synthesis, while population and mechanistic studies with brown seaweeds point to supportive effects on metabolic rate and body‑weight regulation when intake remains within safe iodine limits (Brown et al., 2014; Cherry et al., 2019). Fucoidans and related polyphenols from Fucus exhibit antioxidant and anti‑inflammatory actions and can modulate immune and cytokine responses, suggesting a role in maintaining the health of connective tissues — including joint cartilage and synovial membranes — as well as supporting gut and skin homeostasis through their fiber and polyphenol content (Ganesan et al., 2019; Olsthoorn et al., 2021; Myers et., 2011).*

Burdock (Arctium lappa)

Burdock is a traditional root vegetable and medicinal plant that provides inulin‑type fructans, phenolic acids, lignans, and flavonoids (Moro & Clerici, 2021). Its inulin‑type fructans function as prebiotic fibers that are fermented by colonic bacteria, supporting a beneficial microbiota profile, short‑chain fatty acid production, and gastric and intestinal mucosal defenses—all of which contribute to digestive comfort and intestinal health (Moro & Clerici, 2021; Yen et al., 2018). Pharmacological reviews and clinical studies describe burdock extracts as having antioxidant, anti‑inflammatory, and hypolipidemic effects, with reported improvements in skin appearance and peripheral microcirculation, as well as favorable changes in oxidative‑stress and vascular markers, supporting a traditional view of burdock as a herb that helps maintain healthy skin, circulation, and joint comfort over time (Chan et al., 2011; Ito et al., 2021; Yen et al., 2018).*
